Honor Point Tribute Donation

A lasting contribute from the heart

Make a tribute donation today for someone you love

We are surrounded by people who have made an impact in our lives. These are the people we think about in reflective moments, turn to for inspiration, and struggle to honor in some recognizable way. River Bend Nature Center serves as a way to pay tribute to many such people, both living and deceased, recognizing their contributions through memorials that support our environmental education initiatives at River Bend. A natural overlook on the Straight River was constructed as a memorial and reflection location. The ground is in-laid with stone pavers that are engravable so individuals may honor loved ones in this special place. For more information, click on the Honor Point Button below.

Honor Point Beginnings and Legacy

A natural overlook was formed during construction of what is now Oak Trail, that provided a lovely view. It is a natural point for reflection and gathering. Thanks to funding from the Carl and Verna Schmidt Foundation and the Richard Carlander family, a structured overlook was created. Framed by boulder and stone walls on three sides, and overlooking the Straight River.

The ground is in-laid with stone pavers. Each paver is engravable so individuals may honor loved ones at this special place.

The money from each paver donation goes to work immediately supporting the educational mission of River Bend.  Memorial contributions such as this help advance River Bend Nature Center’s mission of helping people discover, enjoy, understand, and preserve the incredible natural world that surrounds us. So not only are your loved ones remembered by all who visit Honor Point, but their legacy is also imbedded in the smiles of all the children and families who participate in River Bend’s programs.
